8 Creative Valentines Activities for Preschoolers

Valentines Day is right around the corner. And here at Generation Education, we love to incorporate all types of Holiday play into our daily learning.
However, we understand that sometimes it can be difficult to come up with activities that not only incorporate fun holiday themes but also help your learners practice and develop fundamental skills.

Here is a list of 8 Valentines Activities that are fun for preschoolers (but can we adapted for older learners too!)

Valentines Heart Sponge Paint Heart

This activity is a fun way to incorporate art as well as work on fine motor skills.

What you need

  • Art paper/construction paper
  • Red, pink, purple, and white paint (I prefer nontoxic finger paint since it is easier to clean up)
  • Clean sponge cut up/ripped up or sponge dapper

Hearts Name Practice

One common preschool goal is to have kids identify and begin learning to write their own name.

You can use a variety of objects for this activity – Gem hearts, paper hearts, etc.

I created any easy name strip in word and laminated it to reuse for different name activities. But you can keep it even more simple and just write your child’s name on a blank piece of paper.

Have your preschooler practice matching the letters in their name with the letters written on their hearts.

Valentines Counting Puzzles

This activity is fun and festive for your young preschoolers. Have them practice counting and work on number association in a festive way.

Hearts Pattern Practice

This activities is great for practicing sequential ordering and colors recognition. And if you want to incorporate fine motor skills, have your preschooler practice gluing the hearts to each strip with a glue stick.

Valentines Sound Sort

What we used

  • Heart Silicon cupcake tins awwww
  • Several Small objects beginning with the letter sound(s) your child is working on.
  • Child tweezers (optional)

This activity is great for helping your child practice letter sounds, identify items that start with that sound, and practice sorting as well.

Heart Pop-It Vowel Practice

Pop-its are EXTREMELY popular right now and we try to find anyway we can to incorporate them into our school activities. And fortunately they are available in a plethora of shapes and colors, which makes them easy to incorporate for holiday activities.

To make this Valentines Vowel Pop-it all you need is

  • Heart Shaped pop-it, in whatever color you would like ( I found this one at the dollar tree)
  • Dry Erase Marker

Right down various letters on the each dot, using your dry-erase marker. Have your child identify the letter or sound they are working on, and pop each one. And whether your are working on vowels, sounds, or specific letter identification, doesn’t matter. This activity works for it all!

Heart Handwriting

In our home, my preschooler practices handwriting/pre-writing everyday. So for each holiday, I like to through together a handwriting page that incorporates shapes or letters. This heart handwriting page is perfect. And if you want to use it several times you can laminate it and have your preschooler use a dry-erase marker

Valentines Sensory Bin

Both my kids (even the baby) LOVE sensory bin. So I normally start each holiday and unit off with one. This Valentine’s Day bin is fun and encourages play, exploration, and more.
